This place is pretty good. It is not the best tasting pizza that I have ever tasted, and the portions were moderate, but the staff was friendly, the local cherry soda from Northwoods was interesting and the Local Market pizza is quite unique and delicious: the day we tried it the pizza was filled with goat cheese, broccoli and ramps/wild leek. All in all worth trying if you feel like pizza in Traverse City.

Terrible. never going back. the service was slow, waitress was rude. the food was nothing special. the mozzarella squares were no better then the frozen ones you can get at the grocery store. and the pizza my husband and I had (the Caribbean Jerk) had slightly good taste but was very average. AND from this lovely pizza my Husband got FOOD POISONING! on our honeymoon! He ended up vomiting for a few hours from that garbage excuse of a restaurant. so if you don't want food poisoning and bad service on your vacation NEVER visit this restaurant!

We had lunch here on recommendation from a local, the food was okay but the fruit flies in the restaurant bothered me more than anything..... we requested to move outside by their tiki bar and were easily accomodated. The servers were really friendly and had a big smile for everyone.

Came in for lunch sat outside in back patio bar. Cool place had fish tacos that were amazing ! grilled mahi mahi with a nice remoulde sauce and chips very very good also had the Italian sub which was also good would defiantly come back again probably to try the pizza

We loved this place! The pizza was great and I loved the atmosphere too. It's been added to our favorites list. We will definitely be back!

Very very bad service. We had a waitress who was angry and did not want to work. She did not even smile! The pizza lacked all kind of ingredient. Will not be back

We didn't have the greatest service, and the heaters on the patio were on insanely high. We ended up asking them to turn one off bc it was unbearable. But it's kid friendly which is a plus. The breadsticks were not good, very hard and they tasted like dough. But the pizzas were good. I had the garlic lovers, which was really good, but had a little too much garlic on it for me...

Delicious boutique style pizza. BUT. Consider yourself forewarned: you will pay for anything extra. For example, we switched out green peppers for jalapeños on our pizza, and there was a $1.49 up charge. The last I checked at the grocery store, a jalapeño costs about eight cents. Also, we got garlic ($1.49) sesame ($1.49) crust. So, when the bill arrived, our (already kind of spendy) $15 12-inch pizza turned into a $20 12-inch pizza. 6 smallish slices. If you dine here with a family, your bill will not be reasonable. There is a decent bar selection, and a cute patio out back offers an oasis from nutty downtown Traverse City in the summer. I like this place overall, but it's kind of unaffordable for pizza. I mean, I get it. But that doesn't mean I like it. I guess at least you're paying for decent local food.

Our first visit here with the wife and 2yr old. Looks much nicer inside than out. Pleasantly surprised. Was greeted and seated promptly, even after requesting a specific seat. Gave us an ideal location to park the stroller too. Waitress appeared in a timely manner and took drink orders, a few locally made soda pops. A very good choice for the pop drinker. Ordered kids cheese pizza pocket for $3.95, Crete Gyro for $8.49, and an 8" personal pizza with 4 toppings that was $6.35. Overall very impressed with the prices. Gyro was maybe a buck or two more than I was used to, but realized I was in a tourist town and it was a very yummy gyro. Overall, I wish I would have gone here sooner, the pizza was FANTASTIC. One if the top 5 pizzas we've ever had. The veggies are fresh cut, mozzarella cheese was clearly fresh made and recently grated. Noticed they cook pizzas in an old works brick oven. Excellent Roma tomato based sauce. Highly recommended. Our service was impeccable, food was very good to exceptional.

The pizza here is very good and I really like that you can order a personal size one. Also the fact that you can just get a slice of pizza is really nice. My mom has also had one of their salads and she said that it was very good. We have had pretty good service when we have gone here with friendly attentive servers. Sometimes when it is super busy out server was a little overwhelmed and wasn't as attentive as normal, but they were always apologetic about it.

Back in TC and here for lunch yesterday. The patio made it even more perfect. Wonderful.

The pizza is great and the location is excellent . They have an outside deck with a bar and a good amount of seating. The waitstaff is friendly and helpful. The walk-up window on Front Street serves killer slices! It can take a while to get your food but I think that's because of the style pizza oven they use and that it is usually very busy there.

Very good pizza and the service was great. Pricing was acceptable. We got half and half veggie and margarita and both we really good. The dough was stellar as well. They supplement the wait of 30 minutes with popcorn and drinks. The pizza was worth the wait.

30 minutes for an average pie so would not recommend. Service average at best too. Did not try the Chicago style.

We went to Pangea tonight (Sunday) for a pizza -- we had never been there before so we were excited to try it out. We ordered a Hawaiian pizza, which was said to have prosciutto, pineapple, and feta cheese on it. However, when it arrived, the pizza had cubed ham on it in place of prosciutto. We asked our server about the possible mixup and there seemed to be some confusion as to whether the restaurant was out of prosciutto or not; the ham also created this gross, ham juice puddle in the middle of the pizza which was a bit unsettling. The server offered to get the manager to straighten out this situation -- however, after waiting 15 minutes for the manager to arrive, we were told that she was "totally slammed" and asked if we wanted something else instead. We decided to pay for our drinks and leave. My message to this business would be that customer service is crucial. As much as we'd like to support local business, we ended up going home and ordering Dominoes...which was delicious.

We have eaten here a few times. Pizza and caprice salad are great. I like the Margarita pizza the best. They have local sodas by north woods, the family loves the black cherry. They have a good assortment of beers too, some locals as well. Service the first time was just ok (didn't have silverware), but the rest of the times were great.

Went here last night had a caprese salad that would feed 2 - 3 people it was delish. Also has a cheese and sausage medium pizza, the sauce was yummy as was the sausage. Our waitress was friendly and attentive.

Pizza is good but stay away from the burritos. Ordered a veggie burrito , they filled it with white rice , beans with no seasoning no veggies paid $3.50 xtra for a tiny container of guacamole. The whole meal was horrible! Go to chipotle or qdoba if you can't get to a mexican rest. Extremely disappointed ...

When I opened the menu my eyes were immediately drawn to the garlic pizza - and the words "roasted garlic cloves". YES! I am tired of pizza places who think minced garlic is an acceptable use of garlic on pizza. I made my own 8" - roasted garlic & chicken. It was pretty good. Some of the garlic seemed like it could have been roasted just a smidge longer but all in all I was quite happy with it. My friend had a BLT panini with homemade chips that she said was pretty tasty. We were happy with our last minute choice to eat here! Our server was pretty friendly & the service was good overall. Definitely check out the bathrooms. It wasn't busy so I checked out the mens as well as the womens. The womens bathroom is a little crazy - in my opinion. :)

Amazing pizza and beer selection! Great deck area to sit outside! We have been going here for years and Chris and his family are great people. Come down and support a great Traverse city business!

I'm told this is THE best pizza in Traverse City, so to see if the proof's in the pudding, or in this case the sauce and dough, we investigate for lunch. Pangea's is what you expect from a local pizzeria. Standard decour but with a lovely outside area. We stay inside this time. Opposite us is a rack of magazines to keep diners occupied if conversation falls flat. And of course a tv showing a baseball game. We order drinks and a pizza with pepperoni and pineapple. We not long waiting. The pizza's quite tasty but I wouldn't be shouting down the main st of Traverse City raving about it. It's standard pizza. Maybe there 's more happening here around dinner time or later on in the night. It was an enjoyable meal at a reasonable price, and I guess that's it's not easy to get reasonably priced food in Traverse City.

Been here twice now and I've had the "second choice" syndrome both times - should have ordered my second choice! Fortunately, someone else at my table got that, so I could enjoy it a bit. First experience I tried their ham-brie-apple-dijon panini - was only okay, kinda greasy. Apples were not the right kind to be included in this sandwich, not tart enough to stand up to the ham and brie. The hubs had a slice of pizza, which I tried, and was pretty darn good! Second time here, I had their chicken and rice soup (meh) and BLT+avocado panini (could have made this myself). My mom got the tuna melt and chickpea chili. I wish I'd had her lunch. In fact, I ate a substantial portion of her lunch. I still like this place though, so we'll be back, and next time, I'm getting whatever you're having.

Hit the spot during a cold shopping day in downtown Traverse City. Welcomed very warmly by and great job in being mindful of our little ones needs. Always nice to have her food come out a bit earlier and they obliged. The Spinach & Artichoke appetizer is big enough for 4 people and takes a bit longer to cook. Large chunks of artichoke are not for the faint of heart either. Order it though, its really good. After my brief look no one has commented on the calzones. You can't really tell they have them since they don't stick out on the menu. Wife and I shared one but I could have finished one on my own. Really good tasting calzone, sauce had good flavor. Anywhere I can get a Mt. Pleasant Brewing Company Cowcatcher Red Ale is good to me but they did have an expansive array of beers from around the world but most of them you've heard of already.

Pizza and a very good beer selection, what more can you ask for? The service is always great and the food is consistent. My favorite pizza is the Margarita-Basil pesto sauce, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and toasted pine nuts. The Greek salads are good. Happy hour: M-F 3:30-5:30 PM $1 off drinks $1.99 Personal Pizza $4.99 Specialty Pizza

This. Place. Rocks. Seated beautifully outside on the deck on a sunny warm evening. Drinks? Soda all around, except for mom. That wild one. She got the Flight Sampler, which is four delicious imported tap beers. SO MANY PIZZAS TO CHOOSE FROM. 2 out of the 6 pages of the menu to be exact. And they all sound so delicious. It took me forever to decide. I ordered a small greek salad and finally decided to go with the "African Blue" pizza. Besides thier fresh baked, warm crust, this pizza had chicken, mozz and blue cheeses, YAMS, and a tangy BBQ sauce. I think yes. And the salad was good as well, they aint skimpy now with the ingredients. Our cute waiter informed us that they were out of Kilmata olives, so we would substitute black or green olives. I chose green, MY FAVORITE. I'd prefer them anyways. :] My mom got the Margarita pizza. DELICIOUS. Fresh pesto, ripe juicy tomatoes, and a blend of mouth watering cheeses together on a fluffy crust. Oh yeah. My brother is a spicy-fanatic, so he got the buffalo wing pizza. He said it tasted just like one. Fried chicken, Buffalo sauce, Celery, and Blue cheese. He seriously could not stop raving. My dad got the Mexican Pizza. He couldnt stop talking about the chorizzo sausage. Good sign. Health freak sister got caesar salad. She didnt say much. Overall, AMAZING meal. Best yet in TC. I wish you were open at 1:09 AM. :]

After shopping all morning we began searching for a place to eat lunch in downtown Traverse City. We stopped in a couple of place's that just didn't feel right and then we caught a whiff of the pizza cooking at Pangea's and had to stop in. We were greeted by a great host and decided to sit on the deck outside. The deck was small and cute as was our server who was just the appropriate amount of chatty. We ordered a regular pepperoni and cheese pizza which totally hit the spot and was delicious. I was really happy to find their wireless internet high speed and free since I had to do some emergency work over pizza. The only negagive I have to say is that my coke was flat. For a great pizza, go here when you're in Traverse City! (On a slightly funny note... I accidentally put this review unter Paesano's Pizza. Pangea, Paesano... on the same street in TC. oops. I'm glad my bf made the correction for me.)

One of the only Gluten Free pizza joints in town. The pizza pub also features a nice back deck, full beer list and Italian fair.

I spent an excellent summer evening on the porch at Pangea. They've got a great selection of beer-both local and more national varieties. Our waitress was excellent and I was impressed by the variety of pizza fixin's, and especially liked the idea of a local veggie pizza. The pizza was pretty good, and I enjoyed the wheat crust.

Our party of eight was seated on the deck out in the back. Things were going alright until the waitress brought out the caesar salad. She left and we noticed we didn't have any silverware. She didn't come back until she brought out the pizza quite a while later so we were left to our own devices to eat the salad. That was a first. We also asked to have the table's umbrella adjusted to help block the setting sun from some of our eyes but that didn't happen either. The pizza was pretty good but with so many places to eat downtown, I'd probably skip this place next time we're in TC.

the location is outstanding and the black olive pizza (yes, just black olives) was just what the doctor ordered. i'd come back here any day. i have ordered the pizza for delivery but what i like most is that you can get a slice here and just sit outside. on a nice sunny Saturday afternoon, there is nothing better.

The pizza was soggy, I prefer it more crisp. We ordered the African Bleu pizza because we like blue cheese, but it isn't a good combo on pizza. The chicken also was a little dry. Our kids got a cheese/pepperoni pizza, and it was also soggy. The pizza slices weren't cut all the way, so it made it a little difficult to serve ourselves. We did order the Greek salad and the pita and hummus dip appetizer. Those were the only things we really enjoyed eating there. I would have liked a few more pita pieces with the hummus, I felt there wasn't enough on the plate. We don't plan on going there again. I don't recommend it.

We attempted to dine here, ordered soup & a deep dish pizza. The chicken noodle soup had beef and peppers in it and looked like slop. I sent it back. Then a half hour later our pizza came out missing toppings and was not cooked entirely. The server adjusted the bill but acted like this sort of thing happened often. With TC being such a foodie town, I will take my business elsewhere.

Great pizza here, and awesome outdoor dining! Their pizza sauce is amazing, too!

Let me start by saying that this review has nothing to do with their pizza. This review is for their appetizers. I am a lactose-free vegetarian (dairy allergy, not a crazy vegan!) I had their samosas and hummus. They were below average. The samosas were beyond greasy and had very little filling. The hummus was dry and almost crumbly, as if they put no olive oil or tahini in it. My mom had the nachos. Her comment about them was that they were ok, but the ones she makes at home are better. The pizzas looked really yummy, and smelled pretty darn good too. Bummer they don't have dairy-free cheese (yes, I asked). Overall I don't think I would go there again. The service was "eh" and the food was so-so.

    (3)
  • Jessica M.

Pizza was good, but I'd say the price is a bit high for the mediocrity. Comparatively, I've had much better pizza in other cities and paid less, some even boast their use of local ingredients as explanation of the inflated prices.

    (3)
  • Kierstin G.

Sometimes the food is good, sometimes it's not. Pangea's is totally hit-or-miss and their service leaves much to be desired. Every time I've ever been in here I've waited at least an hour for my food, even when I was at the little carry-out window. Seated, I end up having to track the waiter down to take my bill when I'm ready to leave.. The pizza is often doughy in the middle and for the price, meh. $25 for a deep dish? There are a lot of other pizza places in town. I probably won't be trying this place again anytime soon.

Great location, outdoor seating. We decided to have a half buffalo chicken and half Greek pizza with garlic crust. The Greek pizza was ON POINT. The buffalo chicken coulda had moe buffalo.

I love this pizza! Crispy thin crust. Toppings are fresh however they are a little skimpy with them. Overall though good pizza!

The pizza lived up to their claim of the best in town! My kids loved it. I ordered the pork sandwich with cole slaw, Wow! That's was one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I've ever had! And the cole slaw was amazing, & I don't even like cole slaw! We all left with smiles on our faces, great food !

I'm updating my review because the pizza has gone downhill the last few times we visited. And this winter they messed up our pizza order and didn't even bother to apologize - leaving me with two angry kids.

The truth is, we used to come here all the time and we stopped going because we got tired of feeling like we just ate Thanksgiving dinner every time we left. That in itself, is a pretty big compliment... to Pangea, not to us... We went back recently for my birthday, and I forgot how damn good it was. We just built our own pizza with 5 ingredients... not even one of their specialty pizzas or anything... it was absolutely outstanding. Now, I'll throw in a little caveat for all you youngsters or pizza-critics in training.... the glory of this establishment is meant for the advanced palate. That's not an insult to those of you under 25... it's just the wisdom in remembering when I was that age and you tried to put some of these eclectic toppings on my pizza, I would have told you to go fawk yourself. But at some point, pizza with pepperoni, onions, and sausage stops floating your boat... and then you are ready for the next level. I also remember a time when all micro beers made me want to puke, and any girl that wasn't a 9 or 10 was below my standards. But like all of us, I too evolved and moved on. I read a lot of reviews talking about a great beer selection, but usually they suggest something on special that suits my fancy, so I guess I've never really noticed. I'll be frank... the inside of the place never really knocked me out... It's ok. Maybe it has something to do with the carry-out facilities being in the front that gives it a Little Caesars vibe? And it's not that big. I guess I'd settle on unremarkable. The patio is cool in the sense that even though you're really just in back parking lot, you don't really realize it. And that's usually where we end up. It also has a bar out there, which is also nice so you're not waiting forever for your drinks or in total isolation. I don't recall ever having bad service there. And usually, it's really good. I'm weird when it comes to pizza... I like it so much, I rarely call any of it bad.. so I can't be trusted. But I also love it so much, that I also can't pick a single "best" pizza... but for me, folks, this is about as close as I can remember getting.

Loved the variety of their menu. We had a whole wheat crust that was actually edible! The service left a lot to be desired as our server did not hide her exhaustion or her bad mood. I would go back if only it explore their menu.

Just had our first pizza at Pangea's. What a gem we found. Jessica, our server, was excellent and we had a super gluten free pizza. We will be returning often.

Everything on the menu is fantastic. I'd have given them a five but my beer wasn't exactly cold and the service was just 'okay'. Would I go again? In a heartbeat. Head to Kilwin's next door for their new Salted Caramel Ice Cream and you've got a great Traverse City dinner.

I've given this place a few chances (tonight being the last) and it's never impressed me much. They charge $5 for 4 tough, dry breadsticks. We asked for marinara sauce with them and it was ice cold. I ordered a personal garlic lovers pizza and could only eat one slice as it had no flavor at all (I would have thought a garlic lovers pizza would be loaded with flavor) and the chicken had that disgusting re-heated chicken flavor. I ended up sharing my son's pineapple pizza which was actually not bad. The worst part for me though was that our server never came back to ask how our pizza was and when she saw I'd only eaten one slice of my pizza and said no thanks when she offered a take out box, she didn't even ask if there was anything wrong with it. It also took a very long time for our food to come out, even our breadsticks which we ordered immediately after being seated (and they didn't even taste fresh). I'll be sticking with Paesano's next time we go for pizza for sure...much tastier and better service.

We had a salad which was great and huge. Humus for an app and split a pizza w pepperoni. Overall good food and good service. The crust wasn't my style being a little chewy. Great place for a family meal and very friendly genuine service with small kids. Loved the root beer from local producer. Great location. Seated quick and food was timely. Nice job.

  • Charles B.

Lots of pizza choices but I seriously question whether they make their own crust. The pizza was pillowy and soggy and while they offer a lot of toppings, for which I give them credit, I just didn't think the basic chassis was very good. Appetizers and salads were very run of the mill. Nice beer selection, as others have commented, but you can find good beer all over Traverse City. Can't see myself going back here with all the other options in Traverse City which is why I went with two rather than three stars.

Pretty neat layout. To-Go in front, outdoor bar in back. Slice of pizza ok. We were going to order a pie , but the slice didn't shine. Cheese burger for the other kid OK. Chicken, tomato, fresh mozz wrap was just OK with a super small amount of sweet potato fries. Why do restaurants charge extra for these? $2 Wife had gyro that was again OK. I know its really hard for restaurants to do stellar, but I just can't play it up and say it was good or great it really was just o.k.Service was good/ok. had to hunt her down to order more beers she was in folding napkins. No biggy. The one bummer was I left a big tip, like 30-35% just cause I wanted to support the workin folk and she seemed really nice. I left it in cash and really never got a "hey wow thanks" out of her. I didn't over tip for a pat on the back, but thought maybe I might get a recognition nod on the way out. Nope, just a standard thanks see ya. Loved the little town of Traverse though and the Ice cream they have in town is very good. Can't remember the name of it though. Lots of wacky pizza choices on the menu but I felt they fell short on crust and sauce with the by the slice. Beer selection huge. I did the flight of tap beers which worked out pretty good I only trashed 1 the berry beer by the local so and so. All in all A-OK.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
